Your Responsibilities

This is a key leadership role that offers a unique opportunity to provide expert legal advice and guidance on a range of employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This role involves collaborating with human resources and management to address issues such as hiring, termination, disciplinary actions, and workplace policies, while also managing employment-related litigation and overseeing internal investigations.   • Provide comprehensive legal advice on various employment-related matters, such as hiring, termination, disciplinary actions, wage and hour compliance, and workplace policies, while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, including the FLSA, Title VII, ADA, and FMLA.
  • Collaborate with HR and leadership to assist in the development, review, and implementation of employment policies and procedures that comply with applicable laws and industry best practices.
  • Manage and oversee employment-related litigation, including claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and other disputes, while collaborating with outside counsel as needed and participating in settlement negotiations and mediations to resolve issues effectively.
  • Proactively identify potential legal risks related to employment practices, such as discriminatory hiring or non-compliance with labor laws, and recommend effective strategies for mitigation to ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Conduct thorough internal investigations into employee complaints and workplace issues, analyzing information and documenting findings to provide clear recommendations for addressing concerns and preventing future occurrences. 
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in employment law and effectively communicate relevant changes to stakeholders, fostering a culture of proactive compliance within the organization.

What Skills You Need

  • 5 or more years of proven ability, through data, analytics, and past practice, to identify potential legal risks in employment practices and recommend effective strategies for mitigation.
  • 5 or more years of significant background in employment law, including extensive experience with issues such as discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour compliance, and employee relations
  • 5 or more years of experience working in a corporate legal department or law firm specializing in employment law, providing a strong understanding of the legal landscape within a business context
  • 5 or more years of experience developing and delivering training programs related to employment law topics, such as antidiscrimination laws, compliance practices, and risk management.
  • 3-5 years of experience conducting internal investigations related to employee complaints and workplace issues, including documenting findings and recommending actions.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with HR teams to develop and implement initiatives that address employee relations issues, foster compliance, and promote a positive workplace culture.
  • 3-5 years of experience building and leading high-performing teams, promoting a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, while actively identifying and developing talent through mentorship and training opportunities to enhance team capabilities and drive organizational success.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience managing employment-related litigation, including overseeing claims, collaborating with outside counsel, and participating in settlement negotiations.
  • Proficiency in conducting legal research, staying updated on changes in employment law, and applying that knowledge to support organizational policies and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in preparing legal memos, reports, and presentations for diverse audiences, including non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong background in utilizing the latest legal technologies, including AI and software solutions, to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in managing employment law issues, with a focus on staying current on technology and its applications in the legal field.

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
